A typical course for short-distance gait speed includes at least 1 meter (1m) of acceleration zone before the timed zone and 1 to 2 meters of deceleration zone after the timed zone. Courses often vary from 3 to 10 meters. In order to use the estimations feature of the GaitRate app, a 4-meter timed zone is required.
For a 4 meter course, you will need:
- 1 meter acceleration area
- 4 meters course (timed portion)
- 1 to 2 meters deceleration area
Thus, the course will be 6 meters total, but time only on the 4m "timed" portion.
